Steering Group Info
For the planning of the Mix, it was decided that the Youth Steering groups (YSGs) should be split into three groups. This was because:
-
The YSG was a large group of young people who had varying and self interests that they wanted to pursue
-
Three groups ensured that young people working with Creative Media and VAPA could take the lead in certain areas of activity whether that is visual art, music or film.
-
It is the best way for youth workers to establish recorded or accredited outcomes with young people
-
Three groups create better outcomes
-
Three groups give greater control
VAPA steering group
Cinemix is a screening/cinema tent that is run by the young people who attend VAPA and FLIX film sessions.
This group has always worked hard to ensure the quality of the programme and equally to be open to other young people attending and taking part in the steering group. There are short films screened which are representative of FLIX, independent local young filmmakers and local community organisations. The youth workers build the planning of The Mix into the spring and summer term programmes, to help the young people to fully engage in the planning as well as continuing with their own creative film and visual art work.
The Programming and Auditioning group
The Mix programming and auditioning process group provides the opportunity for young people to weave together a programme for the Mix stage. The programming group ensures that young people have an understanding of:
-
Budgeting and value for money
-
Social messages and examples set to their peer
-
Negotiation skills
-
How to choose the correct artist
-
Time planning
-
Programme management and how to combine music genres ensuring smooth performances and changeovers
-
How lyrics, performance content and timing might positively influence audiences and atmosphere
-
Stage management
The Main Mix Steering Group
The main Mix YSG group meets on monthly basis and is formed to discuss issues, progress and development around:
-
Programming
-
Budgeting
-
Events management
-
Training for young people
-
Site planning and tent design
-
Promoting both the Mix and the Integrated Youth Support Service
-
Promoting the voluntary sector
