Violent Crime Campaign
Safer Southwark Partnership - working together to make the community safer.
Southwark Council are working hard to make the community a safer place to live in.
Up until March 2010, the council have promised to:
- Run popular Talkaoke events – or audience-led discussions – on violent crime; this will involve both older people and young people. See the photo gallery.
- Organise My Space, Our Space - an activity in which young people help renovate a public space in order to bring it back into use for the whole community.
- Lobby Government on proposals that will improve our ability to tackle serious violent crime. A summit event will take place to shape these proposals.
- Arrange a series of roadshows to raise awareness about the age restrictions on knife sales, encourage retailers to adopt the knife charter and promote messages around storage of knives and tools.
- Produce a parenting guide (pdf 560 kb) with an information sheet for teachers and other people who work with young people to help them respond to parents' concerns.
