St James Church Bermondsey is a lovely, small open space recently refurbished. On Saturday 27th June at 12pm in the church grounds, the parks team will be holding a fair with numerous stalls and activities for the whole family. There will also be an opening of the new play area for children and plans will be on display for the future development for the churchyard. Come down, share your views on the proposal and enjoy a fun family day.

29 June to 5 July – Brimmington Park

Brimmington Park is one of the hidden gems in Southwark. Located in the Peckham area, the park is a lovely, green spot where you can kick back and relax. The Friends of Brimmington Park work with Southwark Council on helping secure and promote the conservation and protection of the park for the benefit of wildlife and the community. On Sunday, July 5 Friends are meeting in the park to plant heritage bulbs so come along and get involved in fun activities to help make Brimmington Park an even better place to be. Children are welcome to help!

July 13 to July 19 - Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park

Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park will be celebrating 75 years on July 18.  The Friends of the Park and Southwark are commemorating the anniversary with events in the park specifically for children, such as Punch and Judy, face painting, a Tibetan snow lion, farm animals, sports and many other events. The park surrounds the Imperial War Museum and is home to the Tibetan Peace Garden with its sculptures by Hamish Horsley and the Soviet War Memorial. It has sports facility, recently opened, a children's playground and a café. There is the Ice Age Tree Trail, a small woodland copse with woodland plants, a family fruit orchard with all manner of fruit trees and a walled garden with diverse plants from around the world, from alpine to desert. Come and visit any day but especially on July 18 and enjoy all the attractions those permanent and those especially for the day.

July 6 to July 12 - Southwark Park

Southwark Park was the first metropolitan park in London and offers sport facilities, games areas, a cafe with regular exhibitions and fantastic opportunities to enjoy healthy walks. Among the numerous events taking place in the park, Southwark Park will host London Green Space on July 11, 1pm to 10pm. Join in with green activities and workshops, pick up a bargain at Rumble in the Jumble and see performances including the final of Fame Academy Bermondsey. The Big Switch Off bus will be there with activities and tips on how you can save energy and money.

July 20 to July 26 - Nunhead cemetery

Nunhead Cemetery is perhaps the least known, but one of the most attractive Victorian cemeteries in London. Its formal avenue of towering limes and the Gothic gloom of the original Victorian planting gives way to paths which recall the country lanes of a bygone era. Join the Friends of Nunhead Cemetery on Sunday, July 26 for a guided tour of the cemetery and discover with them the charm of this Southwark’s hidden treasure. During the walk, you will admire its history, architecture and stunning views, but also native and exotic plants and wildlife. Meet the Friends of Nunhead Cemetery on July 26 at 2.15pm at the Linden Grove gate for a truly out of common experience!
