Do you go to an Eco-School?
Eco-Schools is an international award that guides schools on their way to becoming more environmentally friendly. Schools are awarded bronze and silver certificates – and if they work really hard they can get a green flag. Southwark has three schools with a green flag at the moment, but there are about 70 schools in the borough (about two-thirds of the schools in Southwark) who are trying to become green. The Eco-Schools map of Southwark shows you where they all are and gives you some idea of what they do.
Do you think your school is doing all it can to help the environment? You might be able to help by suggesting to a member of staff that the school signs up to Eco-Schools. Or, you could join the school council or eco team if they are already working on projects.
The Climate change and sustainability team at Southwark council can provide support for schools interested in finding out more.
Become a Carbon Detective
You can do your bit to help your school to reduce its carbon footprint by becoming a Carbon Detective. All you need to do is speak to your teacher about the Carbon Detectives website and encourage them to register and get all the resources you'll need to get started.
