Fresh faces for our youth cinema

Picture Box, Southwark's youth run cinema that gained national recognition in 2007 is looking for a new team.

Six months after starting a new project on the Aylesbury Estate, the young people involved in establishing Picture Box youth cinema so impressed the organisers of the Philip Lawrence awards that they won the only London prize for young enterprise.

This meant national recognition for the group, a day out at a prestigious ceremony, another £1,000 towards their project costs and they even got to be on TV!

This year has seen a few of the founders hit their 20s which means they can no longer be involved in the youth funded scheme. Co-founder and Camberwell resident Jade Henriques is recruiting for new young people to help.

Picture Box are looking for committed young people who can be available over the school holidays and every other Friday evening from 5pm to 9pm to help run their enterprise.

Picture Box shows newly released films, education specials and old time favourites at a reduced rate for young people and their families. The team choose the films, sell tickets, and run a refreshment stand on screening nights. The project provides training and support for all involved. The project is moving towards being self financing and young people involved are reimbursed for their expenses.

Pay will be available to committed team members. You’ll be eligible to receive this after your three-month trial.

If you are aged between 11 and 19 and live on or near the Aylesbury Estate join the Picture Box team!
