Southwark Youth Council

Southwark Youth Council (SYC) is a voice for young people run by young people. We are helping improve things in the community such as health, road safety and more decent activities.

SYC members are 13 to 19 year olds living in, going to school in or working in Southwark.

Your ideas, your opinions, your voice

SYC is active in decision making across the borough. We hold events and workshops as a way for young people to express their views and take those views to the decision makers such as the councillor in charge of children's services and education.

Some of our recent successes include

  • Organising successful events such as a boat party

  • Awarding almost £1million to young people to organise more activities in their area over the last two years

  • Working with local councillors and senior people in the council

  • Running workshops on issues including sexual health, drugs and nutrition

What you can get out of it

  • Improve your communication, organisation and presentation skills

  • Build your confidence

  • Opportunities to get noticed and the experience looks good on your CV

  • Get new qualifications such as a first aid certificate

  • Make new friends and go on residential trips
