My vote, my dilemma
Joanne will soon be old enough to vote. Is this a big deal? Read on for Joanne's thoughts.
Being nearly 18 (yay!) I recently got a letter in the post about registering to vote in Southwark. Thinking about it, this should have been quite a big thing. I mean, being a history geek (the shame) I know the troubles and hardship the suffragettes went through to gain women the vote. But even in this day and age, having the right to vote is not necessarily a given.
What's it all about?
I find it quite sad that I don't really know enough about politics to make an informed decision. I don't know what the parties stand for, the reforms they want to implement, or even who some of the key members are. And I'm sure I am not alone.
Just to let you know this is not keeping me up at night. But I think that we need to start realising that we can make a difference to the country just by standing up and being counted. If making a mark on a bit of paper is all that it takes, it's well worth it!
“If making a mark on a bit of paper is all that it takes, it's well worth it!”
Really I just want to know what politicians actually do, and not what they might get up to outside of work! But that's just me...
Make your mark
