Looking after your mental health and emotional wellbeing is just as important as looking after your body.

One in four people will have a problem with their mental health at some point in their life – so virtually everyone will be affected, whether personally or if a friend or family member is affected.

Why am I feeling this way?

It's difficult to stay positive when things around you are not going so well. Not being able to deal with your emotions effectively can cause other areas of your life to get out of control if not tackled.  Everyone experiences a period where they feel sad, anxious or angry, but if these symptoms continues for a long time then you really need to seek help.

Below are three of the most common mental health problems:

Depression 

What is it? It is more than a feeling of sadness. A person experiencing depression will feel not only an overwhelming sadness but also a sense of worthlessness. They will also feel run down - mentally tired. Read more.

Self-harm

What is it? It is when a person inflict physical injury to themself - the most common being cutting or burning, often as a way of coping with trauma or a specific problem.  Find out more

Eating disorder
