Community guidelines

Why don't we all just get along? These guidelines will help you get the most from Whatever.

Whatever is here to help 13 to 19 year olds find out what's happening in Southwark, to give you a voice and to create a fun online community.

Your Whatever account is for your personal use to let you share your views and experience of life in the borough. Don't forget that your use of Whatever is subject to these guidelines and our terms of use.

What to do

Stay safe online

Never give out any personal information about yourself – or anyone else – online.

That could include

  • Telephone numbers

  • Postal addresses

  • Home addresses

  • Date of birth

  • Email addresses

  • Any other details that would allow you or someone you know to be personally identified

Bear this in mind when choosing your screen name, writing comments and uploading any other content.

For other tips about this see our advice page about staying safe online.

Under 16?

If you are under 16, you must get permission from a parent or guardian before joining the Whatever online community.

Show respect

Like Southwark itself, young people from many different backgrounds are part of Whatever. We all have the right to feel good about ourselves. Others may not think what you think, believe what you believe or see what you see.

So, be polite and respectful in your interactions with other members.

Be original

Only upload your own original content to the Talent Showcase. That means, don't steal other people's work and pretend it's your own. Doing so is against copyright law and it's not very nice.

Help us

If you feel someone has gone against these guidelines, let us know and we’ll investigate. Likewise, if you’ve got a good idea for an article, or a suggestion to improve the site, get in touch. We’d love to hear from you.

Moderation

Most of the content you upload is moderated. We don't want to stop you expressing yourself, but we do need to protect others who might be offended or hurt.

We’ll send you a warning if you break any of the rules below. You get one warning. Any further attempts mean we could stop your account.

Don’t choose an offensive screen name or show nudity in your profile icon

It's not a good way to start using Whatever. Likewise, unlawful, harassing, defamatory, abusive, threatening, harmful, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, racially offensive or otherwise objectionable material is simply not acceptable on our site.

The site moderators have the right not to publish and to remove any content they believe will offend other members. Persistent offenders will have their accounts terminated.

Don’t vent your frustrations, rant, or bore the brains out of other members

Whatever is not a venue for you to harass, abuse, impersonate, or intimidate others. If we receive a valid complaint about your conduct, we’ll send you a warning or terminate your account.

In conclusion

Whatever is for everyone aged 13 to 19 in Southwark so it’s important that you follow the guidelines. Plus you must stay safe online!
